With an Indian passport you can visit 100 countries and territories without going to an embassy. 26 of them are fully visa-free: you show your passport at the border and walk in.
The list below uses the same data as our India passport page, so the two always match. When we confirm a rule change with an official source, both update together.
Four ways in without an embassy
- Visa-free: no application. Show your passport, and usually a return ticket, at the border.
- Visa on arrival: you get the visa at the airport or border when you land. A fee may apply.
- eTA: a short online travel authorisation, applied for before you fly.
- eVisa: a full visa, but you apply on the official government website. No embassy visit.
All four count as "no embassy". Only the last two need an online application before you travel. For Indians, eVisas make up a large share of the list.

Visa lists age quickly. These are the changes we have confirmed since the start of 2025:
- Thailand: 30 days instead of 60 (since 15 September 2026). Indians still enter Thailand visa-free, but the stay is now 30 days. At land borders, the exemption can be used at most twice a year. See Thailand's new visa rules.
- Iran: visa needed again (since 22 November 2025). Iran suspended its visa waiver for ordinary Indian passports, as announced in India's Ministry of External Affairs advisory of 17 November 2025. Apply on Iran's e-visa portal or at an embassy.
- South Africa: online ETA (since 1 October 2025). Indians apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation at eta.dha.gov.za, for stays of up to 90 days per visit. South Africa no longer issues consular visitor visas to them, and the fee has been ZAR 500 since 17 August 2026. See Africa's visa changes in 2026.
- Philippines: visa-free for 14 days (since 8 June 2025). For tourism or business, with a hotel booking, proof of funds and an onward ticket. The 14 days cannot be extended. With a valid US, Japanese, Australian, Canadian, Schengen, Singapore or UK visa or residence permit, you get 30 days.
- Israel: online B2 visa (since 1 January 2025). Indians can apply for Israel's tourist and visitor visa online through the Population and Immigration Authority instead of at the embassy. It started as a pilot.
- Ghana: eVisa (since 25 May 2026). Visitors who need a visa now apply on Ghana's official eVisa portal, evisa.immigration.gov.gh, with standard processing within 96 hours.
Watch the date: Malaysia. Indians can visit Malaysia visa-free for up to 30 days, for tourism or business, with the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card. This exemption has been extended until 31 December 2026. We will update this page once Malaysia decides whether to extend it again.
Hold a US, UK or Schengen visa? More doors open
Indians gain more from a US, UK or Schengen visa than most travellers. A Schengen visa opens 19 extra destinations, a US visa 13 and a UK visa 10. These are the extra destinations a Schengen visa opens:

Open the live list for the India passport with a Schengen visa: conditions, sources and flightsAmong them are the UAE (visa on arrival), Taiwan (online Travel Authorization Certificate) and Oman (14 days visa-free). In the Philippines, the stay grows from 14 to 30 days. Our guide to the countries Indians can visit with a US, UK or Schengen visa explains each one. The exact conditions, such as a multiple-entry visa or one you have already used, are listed with their official sources on the held-visa pages: Schengen visa, US visa, UK visa and Schengen residence permit.
Changing planes on the way
Cheap flights often connect in Europe, the Gulf or North America. For Indians:
- Schengen area: you can change planes airside in most Schengen airports without a visa. The exceptions are the Czech Republic and Romania, which require an airport transit visa from Indians. You don't need it if you hold a valid Schengen visa or residence permit, a valid visa for Canada, Japan or the US, or a US, Canadian, Japanese or UK residence permit.
- United Kingdom: Indians need a direct airside transit visa (DATV) even to change planes without passing border control. You don't need it with a valid visa for Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the US, a permanent residence permit from one of those countries, or an EEA or Swiss residence permit or long-stay (D) visa. A Schengen short-stay visa does not count.
- United States: there is no airside transit. You need a US visa even to change planes, and a valid US visitor (B) visa covers it.
- Canada: Indians need a Canadian visa to transit, unless they are US permanent residents.
Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Singapore are simpler: no passport needs a visa to stay in their transit areas. The "Changing planes" section of the India passport page keeps these rules up to date.
How we keep this list honest
Our base dataset is a public list of visa requirements for every passport. We compare the Indian passport with lists that cite IATA Timatic, the database airlines check at boarding. Whenever they disagree, we change our data only after confirming the rule with an official government source or a legal text. A few destinations are still being checked, so treat any single entry as a starting point and confirm it before you travel.
Rules can change without notice. Before you book, confirm with the destination's official immigration website or embassy.
